The body of the woman who was found murdered and dismembered at an Airbnb in Kasarani has been identified as 20-year-old Rita Waeni Muendo. Ms. Muendo, who was a student at the Jomo Kanyatta University of Agriculture & Technology (JKUAT) is said to have been taken hostage by her assailant before her brutal demise.

According to the family spokesperson, Dr. Lilian Mutea, Ms. Muendo left her aunt’s home in Syokimau on to visit a friend and never returned. Investigations into the bizarre incident have since revealed the perpetrator demanded a Shs 500, 000 ransom for her release. Police are however in custody of a suspect who was arrested at the JKIA (Jomo Kenyatta International Airport) on Tuesday as he tried to leave the country.

Investigators are, however, still trying to piece together the events that transpired on the fateful night. Sources from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) postulated that the assailant had drugged his victim before dismembering her in the bathroom of the apartment. Further investigation into the issue revealed that the suspect booked the apartment using fake documentation and a phone number registered under a woman’s name to avoid pursuit.

Kasarani Sub County police boss Joseph Muriuki Wednesday confirmed that three individuals are currently in custody in connection with the incident.
