KCB maintained their supreme form against a resilient Kenya Harlequin side to win their match day 9 fixture of the Kenya Cup season. The lions were quick off the mark controlling the games straight from kick-off to pile the pressure on the Harlequins to take the lead before the break.

KCB scrum half Brian Waihinya gave the hosts the advantage in the kicking department, as the lions managed to capitalize on the visitors handling errors to give them the edge. Austin Sikutwa scored a brace as Davies Chenge, Bob Muhati and Lionel Ajeliti added on to the points tally to make the score 33-3 by half time.

Ajeliti who has been in fine kicking form this season converted, Festus Shiasi’s try after a quick break off the left wing to extended the host’s lead to 40-3 on the restart. The Harlequins who lacked the services of their Captain Herman Humwa and Lock Micheal Onsando- who is shrugging off a knee injury- got back into their stride to pull one back through Jan Remke after a spell of good link up play to make the scores-40-8.

The Lions relentlessly defended their turf as they have all season to extend their lead 45-8 before a converted try by Patrick Wainaina made the scores 45-15 on the final whistle. KCB are a point shy of the top spot with 44 points behind league leaders Kabras who extended their points tally to 45 after a 47-3 win against the Menengai Oilers. The match that was played in front of a throng of fans at the Kakamega Showground made for an enthralling weekend spectacle as the Kabras backline almost ran the Oilers off their shorts.

Meanwhile, Strathmore Leos ended their six match losing streak with a 34-14 win over Homeboyz that moved them closer to safety and left Homeboyz staring at relegation with two matches still to play. Mwamba won their fourth successive match, defeating a defiant Kisumu side 32-27 at RFUEA to stay in contention for the playoffs. Nondescripts consolidated fifth place with a hard fought 22-10 win against Kenyatta University Blak Blad at the Kenyatta University while Nakuru RFC deconsecrated the Catholic Monks 31-10.
