EPL: Its make or break for ten Hag against Wolves

Published

A loss tonight at the Molineux will most definitely guarantee Manchester United a spot further down the log as they take on a defiant Wolverhampton tonight at 23.15hrs ETA . United have won only one of their last five games and won only ten games this season of 22 premier league matches played. Currently placed 9th on the table Erik ten Hag’s side has struggled to find form despite having made crucial signings in the summer transfer window.

Wednesday night’s 4-2 win over Newport County gives United a slight edge over the Foxes who struggled to find the back of the net against West Brom in their FA cup clash that ended in a draw. Wolves who haven’t won four consecutive top flight matches since January 1972 missed out on a chance to break the record in their premier league match against Brighton. But if their performance this season against the big clubs is anything to go by, United need to play at their best to bag three points.

Wolves record against EPL powerhouses:

Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-0 Everton

Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 Chelsea

Arsenal 2-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 Tottenham

Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 Manchester City

Wolverhampton Wanderers 1- 3 Liverpool

Having lost only two games on home turf this season, United are set to face an uphill task against a very formidable Wolverhampton side. Erik ten Hag’s side beat the Foxes 1-0 in their first leg encounter at the beginning of the season. But the Red Devils have since posted inconsistent results with the team struggling to find winning form. Andre Onana who was signed from Inter for £47.2 million in the summer hasn’t quite lived up to expectation having already conceded 28 goals and kept only six clean sheets.

Transitional play at the Old Trafford continues to present ten Hag with a big challenge. Link up play at mid-field has been patchy and composure in the final third has been wanting to say the least. Rasmas Hojlund’s acquisition from Atalanta has barely improved United’s chances in front of goal and neither has Sofyan Amrabat nor Johnny Evans had an impact on the team.

Pressure now mounts on the Dutch manger to post results in today’s fixture amid speculation about a possible change in management at the club. The manager earlier declined to give details on the renewal of his contract at United fueling rumors on his exit from the Old Trafford. Former Manager Jose Mourinho has already hinted at a return to the English club barely a fortnight after his dismissal from Roma. Bayern Manager Thomas Tuchel could also be headed back to the Premier League should Erik ten Hag be relieved of his duties at the club.
